Making a Star Frame

Framing an image

You will need Paint Shop Pro 7 for this tutorial.

You may send a link to this tutorial through email and to e groups, you may not send the tutorial.

This tutorial has two parts, making the frame and then framing the image.  You can make just the frame if you wish.  You will not need an image to make the frame.

I used the following image and the following background fill for this tutorial.  Please feel free to download them for us.

Making The Frame

Step 1

Open new image 300 X 300 transparent background.

Step 2

Set your foreground to null and your background to white.

From your preset shapes select Star 2 with the setting below.

Draw a star that goes stars at 50,50 and goes to 250, 250.

Step 3

Using your magic wand select the star you just made.  The go to Image/Rotate and set to 25 degrees.

Step 4

Use your magic wand to select all the white.  Then go to Edit/Copy then Edit/Paste/Paste as new image.

Step 5

Use your magic wand to select the white again. Then go to Selections/Invert.  Flood fill with a contrasting color. Then go to Layers/Merge/Merge All

Step 6

Go to Image/add Border and add a 10 pixel white border.

Step 7

Go to Layers/Promote to Layer.  Use your magic wand to select all the white.  Then go to Selections/Invert and delete.  You should just have the white part left.

Step 8

Go to Selections/Invert to select your star again.  Now go to Effects/Texture Effects/ Texture and from the drop down list of presets choose denim.

Step 9

Now go to Effects/Texture Effects/ Sculpture and choose Gold from the presets.

Select none and this is what you should have.

Step 10

Now to save it as a frame.  Go to File/Save As. Set your file to Paint Shop Pro Image.  When you save, make sure add the fiel extension .pfr and save to your frames folder.

You now have a frame to use how you want.

Continue on to find out how I used the frame to fill an image.
