Christmas
2004 was a very unique
and special one in the
Rio Grande Valley.
For the first time in
over 100 years, we had a
white Christmas.
Those of you unfamiliar
with where the Rio
Grande Valley is
located, may think this
is nothing special, but
the Rio Grande Valley's
climate is classified
has semitropical. The
average temperature
ranges from 64°F to
80°F. It does get
colder occasionally and definitely
gets hotter. Snow
and ice is not a common occurrence
in this part of the
world. Even
weather forecasters were
surprised by the snow accumulation.
Usually the ground is to
warm for any snow to
last on the
ground. With rain
freezing before any snow
started, the ground was
cold enough to allow 1.5
inches of snow to
accumulate in the area.
It truly did make for an
unforgettable Christmas.
