Chapter Nine

Repairs were completed aboard the Shootingstar and activities were ensuing to rendezvous with the Samara. The Samara would be home for these winged people, and they seemed anxious to be on their way. It was less of a danger to be in space than to always be in hiding on their own planet. It was a new adventure and they were meeting it with hope and promise. The Shootingstar was loaded with all that it could carry and preparations to meet with the Samara were underway.

During the preparations for departure, Kurtis had nothing on his mind but what he and Crytron had discussed.

He knew that such a commitment could not be made until he had first discussed the matter with Dudkhundi and Sintara. While Crytron and his people were busy with their task of loading the heavy equipment from their hideout, Kurtis asked Dudkhundi and Sintara to join him in his quarters.

"I have been asked to command the Samara." Kurtis had

always been unpretentious and direct. He gave them time to absorb the situation and let them have the first word.

Sintara was the first to speak, knowing that Kurtis was eager to have their opinions. "What do you want, Kurtis?" she asked.

"I am considering the position, but only if you two would be in agreement, and of course would stay with me." Kurtis answered.

"Count me in, Kurtis.” Dudkhundi said eagerly. "I've been with you a long time, and this seems to be just another

Adventure. Perhaps this will be the best." He smiled at Kurtis and shook his hand.

Sintara was slow to join the festivities. She would go with Kurtis wherever he went, and she hoped that he knew it. She was sure that this was going to be an adventure, and that was where her hesitation stemmed from. Would this be one of those dangerous, life-threatening adventures, or could they now become secure with solid footing?
